The Friends of the Forces Fellowship bid farewell to Col Ron Walker and CWO Marlene Shillingford as they prepare to depart 15 Wing for new adventures.<br><br>These farewells are bittersweet as we are terribly sad to see them leave but are happy to see they are moving onto more significant appointments and challenges. Friends of the Forces donates toys<br> Robb Nesbitt, left, (then) vice-chairman, and Roy LaBuick, right, (then) chairman, represented Friends of the Forces Fellowship in making donations to the Salvation Army’s Toy Days at Canadian Tire. Members of the Fellowship donated a variety of toys for all ages to be distributed to children at Christmas by the Salvation Army. The Toy Days is an annual project at Canadian Tire and Fellowship members have been involved for a number of years.

Lyle Johnson, Dennis Burnie, Roy LaBuick, Ken Hawkes, Gord Johnson and Robb Nesbitt of the Friends of the Forces Fellowship (formerly 15 Wing Fellowship) joined representatives of 15 Wing and students and staff of Sunningdale School in Moose Jaw for the annual Remembrance Day commemoration at the school. <br><br>In the next 7 photos, flags representing Canadian soldiers who died in Afghanistan were placed along the walkway into the school. Students also put together a memorial display and placed large poppies in the school windows. <br><br>Fellowship members are proud to be part of this annual project.

Members of the Friends of the Forces Fellowship (formerly 15 Wing Fellowship) gathered recently to distribute $55,000 to military and community organizations. The funds were raised from the Highway to Heroes Car Show as well as the Musical Swing Concert. Groups receiving grants included the Military Family Resource Centre, Air and Sea Cadets, Moose Jaw Transition House, Moose Jaw and District Food Bank, Moose Jaw Health Foundation, Make-A-Wish Saskatchewan, Moose Jaw Shrine Club and scholarships for Vanier Collegiate as well as Peacock Collegiate, Central Collegiate, Riverview Collegiate, and Cornerstone Christian School through the Prairie South School Division.

Members of Friends of the Forces Fellowship assisted with the flag placement at Sunningdale School in remembrance of the 158 soldiers who died in the Afghanistan war. This ceremony began many years ago when the father of one of the Sunningdale students was killed while serving in the CAF in Afghanistan. The family has since moved on but the ceremony remains as a unique memorial in our city to that specific conflict.<br><br>

Good luck to Col. Denis O'Reilly and Mrs. Doris O'Reilly. <br><br>Members of the 15 Wing Fellowship* gathered recently to say so long and good luck to Col. Denis O'Reilly and Mrs. Doris O'Reilly as they leave Moose Jaw for a new posting and duties in Winnipeg. <br><br>Col. O'Reilly has been commander at 15 Wing for the past three years and has been supportive of Fellowship projects during that time. <br><br>The O'Reillys were recently named Honorary Citizens of Moose Jaw. At the Fellowship dinner, a plaque of appreciation was presented by Aaron Ruston, (then) Fellowship chairman, and Joyce Walter, Fellowship Secretary/Treasurer. <br>*now Friends of the Forces Fellowship<br><br>

Each year Sunningdale Shool and the 15 Wing Fellowship honour the veterans of the Afghanistan War by placing 158 flags on the entrance way to the school. It is a way to commemorate these soldiers, one of whom was the father of a Sunningdale student a few years ago. Support for Parkinson SuperWalk <br><br> A donation of $1,000 was made by the 15 Wing Fellowship* at the recent Parkinson SuperWalk held in Wakamow Valley. The donation was made in memory of Perry Luchia who passed away in 2016 from Parkinson’s Disease. <br><br>Part of the Fellowship’s mandate is to provide support to current and former military families with funds raised through various projects including the Highway to Heroes Car Show and Concert, and the Musical Swing Concert. <br><br>The Fellowship also assists other worthy projects and recently made a donation to Stars Ambulance and Quilts of Valour. <br><br>Perry Luchia retired from the Canadian Armed Forces in 1994 after first training as a radar technician and being posted to CFB Moose Jaw where he was a technician with the Snowbirds demonstration team for the 1981-82 season. He obtained his own pilot’s wings in 1986 and served in both North Bay and Cold Lake. Toys From 15 Wing Fellowship* <br><br> The large teddy bear looks over all the toys and games donated by 15 Wing Fellowship members to the Salvation Army toy drive held at Canadian Tire. Support for Navy/Sea Cadets <br><br> The 15 Wing Fellowship* recently presented a cheque for $500 to the Moose Jaw Navy League/Sea Cadet Corps in appreciation for assistance provided at the Fellowship’s Highway to Heroes car show held at 15 Wing. <br><br>Cadets and their parents assisted at the gates of the car show and undertook other duties as required. The Fellowship is committed to assisting military families and related military organizations.
